In midst of these challenging times, it was shocking for me to read about Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District in Alaska (which had closed their schools in March 2020 due to COVID-19) managed to have a school board meeting on 22 April 2020 and ban 5 books. Those in support of free speech and good literature must always stay as vigilant as those who are not, even in the 21st century and during a pandemic.
